BMBF Programme “Social Ecological Research”

Since 1999, IFEU has been supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) within the framework of the programme “social ecological research” (SÖF, see more at the website www.sozial-oekologische-forschung.org). This goal of this research programme is the development of strategies to solve sustainability issues in our society: e.g. strategies to implement the so called "agrarian change", to improve the food supply, to liberalize net-related supply and disposal systems (e.g. water, energy) and to trade with emissions. This kind of research requires cooperation between natural and social scientists and involves many stakeholders (e.g. consumers, local authorities, businesses and NGOs).
The aim of the research programme is to promote sustainable development, that is, ecological transformation of the society, without losing sight of social justice and economic concerns.
