Critical Review

ISO 14040

If life cycle analyses are to comply with standards, then they must be accompanied by a Critical Review Panel according to ISO 14040, Section 7.3.3. The Critical Review Panel is generally formed at the beginning of a project. Experts from various relevant specialist fields are selected. They nominate a chairman to coordinate the meetings. These meetings during the duration of the project critically examine each stage of the LCA – objectives and framework, impact categories, evaluation and the sensitivity of the results to changes in input data. A final examination of the plausibility and capacity of the results is a further validation phase and is documented in a separate report by the Critical Review Panel.

Experts at IFEU have taken part in diverse Critical Review Panels. Furthermore, consulting for projects with a focus on a Critical Review is part of IFEUs area of expertise.
