The contribution waste management makes to sustainable development in Germany is an important issue when regarding the protection of our natural resources. When the Closed Substance Cycle Waste Management Act (KrW-/AbfG) was passed in 1994, the waste management system consequently took over responsibility for sustainable development in Germany. It plays a decisive role in dealing with substances and materials in our society. In terms of the goals of sustainable development, this means conserving exhaustible raw materials and paying more attention to renewable ones. A major focus is on processes of waste management , as they often involve great expenditure of energy and release pollutants.
